Shivshankar Menon, the National Security Advisor after releasing the JWG report "Engagement with Private Sector on Cyber Security", said that country needs to strengthen defense against all kinds of cyber attacks.
He said, "If India has to grow its IT industry, we also have to maintain our reputation of being safe, secure partners with whom everybody can work with. We need to be more secure than we are and we have a sense of the kind of steps we need to take for the future".
"We all have seen social media disseminating information to wreck communal harmony. This kind of phenomenon is something we need to learn to deal with. This is something new. The important thing for a democratic society like us is how to do it while maintaining democratic freedom," he added.
Government is planning to allow private sector in setting up on cyber security.
Implementation will begin by establishing Institute of Cyber Security Professionals of India along with Institute of Chartered Accounts of India (ICAI).
4 pilot programs: a testing lab, multi-disciplinary centers of excellence, study of vulnerabilities in sample information infrastructure and making cyber security audits mandatory for companies by amending the Companies Act, will be developed as well.
Government would also introduce specialized cyber security related curriculum in engineering and management courses.
