New Delhi, Oct 16 (ANI): Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who has been strongly criticized for being silent on issues of national interest, will deliver his 100th public address of the year at Hyderabad today.
Dr. Singh has made 99 speeches and his office has released 160 press releases so far in 2012.
Dr. Singh, who took charge as the Prime Minister of the country for the first time in 2004, has given a total of 1368 speeches and his office has released 1502 press releases till today.
In the backdrop of a large number of scams and a slew of economic reforms announced by the UPA Government, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led opposition has very often criticized the Prime Minister for failing to answer several questions pertaining to issues of national interest.
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, had on August 27 expressed disappointment over the Prime Minister's silence, and alleged that the latter has no answers to tough questions. The BJP leader maintained that the Prime Minister's stand over the CAG report on coal blocks allocation is not at all satisfactory.
The BJP had said that the Prime Minister, who then held direct charge of the coal ministry, was responsible for what has been estimated as a notional loss of Rs 1.86 lakh crores by the CAG in coal block allocations, and demanded his resignation.
Dr. Singh, the 13th Prime Minister of India, is the only Prime Minister since Jawaharlal Nehru to return to power after completing a full five-year term, and the first Sikh to hold the office.
Dr. Singh, a renowned economist, is also said to be a strong supporter of globalization and sees India's immense labor strength capable of delivering Indian goods in a worldwide market which would help relieve large-scale poverty in the country. (ANI)
