Injury-free Paine eyes return to ODIs, T20s for Australia

Sydney, Sat, 13 Oct 2012 ANI

Sydney, Oct 13 (ANI): Tasmanian wicketkeeper-batsman Tim Paine has overcome his hand injury problems that derailed his career, and aims to prove it in one-dayer against South Australia.

Paine endured three rounds of hand surgery, and saw his discomfort doubled by Matthew Wade taking his spot as successor to wicketkeeper Brad Haddin.

"Two years out of the game, I have probably dropped back down the order," Paine said after captaining the Tigers to a Sheffield Shield win against the Redbacks.

"I'm really happy with where my game is but I realise I have to put in some time to build my numbers up," he said.

Paine said shorter formats were his likely avenue back into the Australian team, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.

"It's probably closer than the Test recall. 'But I'm not going to put any sort of timeframe on it. I'm just happy at the moment to be back playing for Tassie," said Paine, who has played 26 one-day internationals. (ANI)
