New Delhi, Oct 8 (ANI): A large number of artists, writers, professors, critics and academicians paid rich tributes to distinguished Yakshagana actor late Kuriya Vittala Shastri here on Monday.
The editor of Dehali Kannadiga, M.B. Samaga, who inaugurated the celebrations here said 'introducing reforms in costumes and dance, Shastri started a new era in Tenkutittu style of Yakshagana, folk art of Karnataka and served Era, Katil, Dharmasthala Yakshagana troupes and became popular in Ishvara, Vishvamitra, Krishna, Hanumantha, Vishnu roles, received Mysore State Sangeeth Nataka Academy Award in 1954'.
Samaga also announced an award to be instituted by Dehali Kannadiga, which would be given to a distinguished Yakshagana actor in memory of Kuriya Vittala Shastri. (ANI)
