Agartala, Oct.7 (ANI): India and Bangladesh are working towards strengthening ties, and as part of these efforts, theatre artists from both countries came together to perform at a festival here.
The three-day-long event had several interesting features, including a performance by Mahakal Natya Sampraday, a Bangladesh-based theatre group.
The performance was based on a story, Nishimon Bisarjan, written by the noble laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore, which was about the times of Manikya dynasty of Tripura.
It is not the first time artists from Bangladesh have showcased their skills in Tripura, and it reflects rapidly improving relations between the two countries.
"I feel that such programs are necessary to improve relations between both the nations. By performing here, we have increased our knowledge and also strengthened our relations," said Masuk, a member of the Bangladesh Theatre Group.
"Both India and Bangladesh share common cultures. We may be separated by borders but our souls remain the same, and so does our culture," added Chandan Mazumder, one of the organizers of the event.
The audience at the Nazrul Kalashetra auditorium thoroughly enjoyed the performance of the Bangladeshi theatre group, which was in Bengali.
The festival gave a chance to the people of Agartala to find out more about the culture of Bangladesh.
"The better our relations with neighbouring Bangladesh, the better it will be for South East Asia's future," claimed Partha Pratim Ganguli, a member of the audience.
"We were worried whether the audience would like it or not, but fortunately people liked it very much," said Jopa Mazumder, an actress from Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh based troupe had earlier performed in Delhi and Kolkata as part of joint commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore.
The cultural ministries of the two countries regularly organize such joint cultural programmes. (ANI)
