Mumbai, Oct 3 (IANS) A benchmark index of Indian equities markets was trading 12.85 points higher around 1.30 p.m. trade Wednesday, with oil and gas and health care stocks among the best performers.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 18,841.49 points, was ruling at 18,836.76 points, 12.85 points or 0.07 percent up from its previous day's close at 18,823.91 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 18,905.62 points and a low of 18,818.60 points in intra-day trade. The BSE midcap index was up 14.35 points while the smallcap index was 41.92 points high.
The wider 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange was also ruling 2.10 points and 0.04 percent up at 5,720.90 points.
On the sectoral front, the BSE oil and gas was up 62.34 points followed by health care index up 59.50 points, and capital goods at 25.01 points.
Major Sensex gainers were Dr.Reddys Lab, up 43.65 points or 2.65 percent at Rs.1,689.00; Hindustan Unilever, up 8.75 points or 1.61 percent at Rs.551.40; Coal India, up 5.25 points or 1.47 percent at Rs.363.10; Reliance Industries (RIL), up 10.70 points or 1.28 percent at Rs.845.25 and Tata Consultation Service (TCS), up 16.40 points or 1.26 percent at Rs.1,319.00.
The main losers were Jindal Steel, down 17.25 points or 3.96 percent at Rs.418.50; Bajaj Auto, down 31.25 points or 1.72 percent at Rs.1,781.00; BHEL, down 3.40 points or 1.35 percent at Rs.248.50; Infosys, 34.10 points or 1.31 percent at Rs.2,575.00 and Hero MotoCorp, down 22.55 points or 1.20 percent at Rs.1,858.65.
Among other Asian markets, Japan's Nikkei was down 0.45 percent while Hong Kong's Hang Seng was trading 0.17 percent higher. Shanghai's composite index was also trading higher by 1.45 percent.
