Gurgaon's Rapid Metro's trial run conducted

Gurgaon, Oct 2 (IANS) The trial run of Rapid Metro, an intra-city metro service in the city, the first-of-its-kind project on Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) model, was carried out Tuesday, an official said.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, along with Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjeet Singh, also Tuesday laid the foundation stone of the Rapid Metro's 7-km-long extension.

The 5.1 km Rapid Metro Gurgaon Corridor is being constructed at a cost of Rs.1,088 crore. It will have stations at Sikanderpur, DLF Phase-2, Belvedere Towers, Cyber City, Moulsari Avenue and Cyber Green Infinity Towers.

The corridor is expected to be completed by March 2013, on which trains will run from 5.00 a.m. till midnight. The fare structure of Rapid Metro is similar to that of Delhi Metro, said an official.

The Rapid Metro Extension project will be completed by July 2015 at an estimated cost of Rs.2,100 crore and it will also have six stations. It will be 7-km-long from Sector 56 to Sikanderpur Metro Station.

Hooda said the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) is a partner in constructing the Rapid Metro Corridor in Gurgaon.
