London, October 1 (ANI): The original Calendar Girls, a group of ordinary women who stripped off for a saucy calendar to raise money for the hospital where one of their husbands died from cancer, have decided it is time to cover up and call it a day with a gala concert at London's Royal Albert Hall.
Their extraordinary tale became a worldwide sensation, inspiring a hit movie starring Julie Walters, sell-out stage shows and raising millions of pounds for Leukaemia Research.
"We've all had the most fantastic time and we've done what we set out to do, which was to raise money for the charity in John's memory," the Mirror quoted Angela Baker, whose husband was the inspiration for their saucy photoshoot, as saying.
"We've loved every minute of it but we have decided that we won't be doing another calendar.
"We've talked about it and, that's it, we're keeping our clothes on from now on," she said.
There are currently 950 amateur productions of the stage show planned for this year, each one generating a fee for the charity, and with mugs, pinnies, tea towels and re-issued calendars being sold after each one, there's plenty of scope for making more.
It's a huge operation, and is a far cry from when it all began back 13 years back in 1999. (ANI)
