New Delhi, Sep 29 (ANI): Congress Party on Saturday poked fun at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over its supposed decision to recall regional leader and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh as a part of its strategy ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
Congress leader Jagdambika Pal said that the BJP's plan to gain popular mandate through its Hindu firebrand leader would not yield the desired result.
"In a bid to deal with disappointment amongst the public with the Bharatiya Janata Party, they are trying to get back Kalyan Singh into the picture as he is the face of Hindutva. But the way Singh left the party and formed his own outfit, and used disrespectful language for BJP further losing the trust of the people. Their same formula will not work every time," he said.
The BJP, however, hit back at the ruling Congress Party on the issue, saying many political outfits are going to get associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party-led alliance following which the NDA will become stronger
"Unlike the Congress, which tried to weaken its allies and later even tried to blackmail them, we try to strengthen our partners, this is the difference between us. We know how to perform the duties of the coalition, while they believe in doing injustice to their allies. This is the major difference," said BJP spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.
"So, senior leaders of our party are holding consultations with many alliance partners. I believe many parties will get associated with the alliance. Where it concerns people joining the alliance individually, the party will think over the matter at an appropriate time," he added.
According to certain media reports, the BJP is keen to bring back Kalyan Singh in its search of a pro-Hindutva OBC face in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2014 assembly polls.
Kalyan Singh has reportedly convened a meeting of his Jan Kranti Party in Lucknow on October 5, ostensibly to discuss the issue of his return to the BJP.
Kalyan Singh has so far headed the BJP Government twice in Uttar Pradesh and also parted ways with the party twice in the past. (ANI)
