Indian Embassy in touch with authorities to secure release of detained workers in Kuwait

Kuwait, Sept 23 (ANI): The Indian Embassy is in constant touch with the local authorities here in connection with the detention of 2500 Indian workers, who were, on Wednesday, detained by the local police for alleged visa violations, sources informed.

Five officials have been deputed today to various detention locales, while sponsors are being contacted to get the detainees released, sources said, and added that some sponsors had already got those under their respective sponsorships released.

The Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs has been informed to get in touch with Indian agents who sent Indians to Kuwait.

Meanwhile the families of the detainees claim that they are being targetted by the Kuwaiti Government, however, reportedly, only those who have overstayed their visas are believed to have been detained. (ANI)
