London, Sep 23 (ANI): Irish star golfer Rory McIlroy had no qualms in branding himself as the best golfer on the planet, after being regarded the same during an TV interview.
After months of playing down his status as undisputed world No 1, McIlroy decided the time for humility was over when he went on a prime-time US talk show with NBC host Jimmy Fallon.
After Fallon said, "Wow, I'd have to say you must be the greatest player in the world right now," McIlroy replied in agreement.
"Yeah so would I," The Sun quoted McIlroy, as saying, as he gave a huge grin.
That response seemed to throw Fallon, who asked McIlroy whether it was "weird" to be handing out beatings to Tiger Woods, a player he grew up idolising.
But Supermac answered: "It might be weird for him - I just think it's great."
McIlroy had also just gone back to world No 1 spot after a short-lived stint at the top earlier this year, and was in no mood to proclaim his supremacy.
McIlroy added: "It's hard for me to sit up here and say that I'm the best player in the world, or Tiger is. Sure, I feel like I'm the best and Tiger feels like he's the best.
"Tiger has been the best player in the world for the last 15 years. Just that people are mentioning my name with the likes of him is a huge compliment," he said. (ANI)
