Congress to persuade Mamata on FDI in retail

Karnataka,Business/Economy,Politics, Sat, 15 Sep 2012 IANS

Bangalore, Sep 15 (IANS) The Congress would try to persuade Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee to drop her opposition to FDI in multi-brand retail, Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi indicated here Saturday.

The United Progressive Alliance government would take "seriously" Trinamool Congress' 72-hour deadline to roll back retail FDI and people concerned would talk to Banerjee, he told reporters here.

Ravi, also minister for micro, small and medium enterprises, disagreed with the contention of some of the UPA allies that they were not consulted on allowing FDI in multi-brand retail.

The decision was taken by the union cabinet, where all UPA allies are represented, he said.

On diesel price hike, Ravi said the government had to take the decision thought it "is not a happy one".
