Now, smart PC desktop that knows when not to disturb you

London, Fri, 14 Sep 2012 ANI

London, September 14 (ANI): A team of researchers has developed a smart desktop that monitors the amount of pressure placed on a keyboard and hold back notifications if it judges you to be too busy.

By fitting a pressure-sensor mat beneath a keyboard, Takahisa Tani and Seiji Yamada at the Graduate University for Advanced Studies in Hayama, Japan, found that it could tell how active the user was by detecting the change in pressure when they type.

The system was tested on volunteers who were asked to complete a word-processing task, New Scientist reported.

Each time a notification popped up while they were typing, the volunteer could accept or reject it and after a short training period, the system was able to pick appropriate moments to interrupt on its own, with over 80 percent accuracy.

The findings have been presented at the Ro-Man conference in Paris, France, on 9-13 September. (ANI)
