New Delhi, Sep 13 (ANI): Emphasizing the need to maintain the ratio between sexes and strengthen women empowerment in the society, Minister for Women and Child Development Krishna Tirath on Thursday expressed the need to implement various schemes for women and children in the country.
Tirath also spoke about the challenges faced by women in the patriarchal Indian society and highlighted the need for providing a holistic package for women.
"Actually, we are just trying to give strength to women, we are trying to strengthen women, giving training. Our two schemes, Swadhar and Step, are helpful for women. We are trying to economically empower women," she said.
"Sabla and IGMSY (Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana) should be there in each state and district. We have called a meeting to discuss on the issue and I think this meeting would be a fruitful meeting," she added.
The average female life expectancy today in India is low compared to many countries, though it has shown gradual improvement over the years.
In many families, especially rural ones, the girls and women face nutritional discrimination within the family, and are anaemic and malnourished. (ANI)
