'Fearless' Ireland eyeing Australia scalp in opening T20 WC match

Sydney, Thu, 13 Sep 2012 ANI

Sydney, Sep 13(ANI): Ireland captain William Porterfield has claimed a ranking of 10th would affect his players' confidence ahead of their opening World Twenty20 clash with Australia on September 19 in Colombo, and added that they are focused on winning their opening fixture.

Porterfield's side have got the jump in terms of preparation by arriving a week earlier than the Australians who landed in Sri Lanka on Wednesday.

"The majority of the lads have been here a week or so. We've had a couple of games so we've worked on the game plan in the middle. The preparation has gone really well so far," News.com.au quoted Porterfield, as saying.

Porterfield added new part-time bowling coach Craig McDermott, who quit a full-time role with the Australian side earlier this year, had been a major boost up to the Irish hopes.

"It (Australia) is a game we've targeted. Craig's fitted in pretty well. Something might be made of the fact that he was with Australia before us. But he has (instilled) a lot of confidence within the squad that we can go out and beat anyone," Porterfield added. (ANI)
