Srinagar, Sept 10 (ANI): The Jammu and Kashmir Filmmakers and Artists Co-operative Limited (JKFMAC) in collaboration with the State Information Department and J andK Academy of Art, Culture and Languages organised a comedy drama festival here recently.

Titled 'Comedy Drama Festival 2012', the 11-day event that was inaugurated by Governor N.N. Vohra, aims to bring back the literary atmosphere of the 1970s and 1980s.

Speaking on the occasion, Additional Director General, Doordarshan, Ashok Jail Khani said that such festivals should be organised more often to bridge the gap between theatre and audiences.

"There are still certain drawbacks within the theatre culture. If theatre activities take place and shows are organised on a regular basis, people would connect to it and start attending such shows. These shows can help bridge the gap between the audience and theatre. But the main responsibility has to be taken by the actors, directors and mainly writers of the play who should choose such topics and issues with which common man can connect, and are related to their day to day life," Khani said.

Rani Bhan, an artist, applauded the efforts of the organisers of the festival for the revival of theatre in the state.

"I feel really nice that we are trying to revive the theatre culture. Theatre has always remained a part of Kashmir. We want that more and more people should participate, and we are happy that we are provided with an opportunity to perform," Bhan said.

The artists performed plays in Kashmiri, Urdu, Dogri and Ladakhi based on the cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh regions.

The festival would conclude on Wednesday (Sept 19). (ANI)
