PCB's inquiry committee 'interrogates' Pak U-19 players over poor showing at WC

Islamabad, Sat, 08 Sep 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Sep 8(ANI): Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) four member inquiry committee that was handed the responsibility to find out the reasons behind the poor performance of Under-19 team at the recently concluded World Cup in Australia, has interrogated various youth team players as a part of their investigation.

The first meeting of the inquiry committee was held on September 4, and in the first phase four Lahore-based players including captain Babar Azam, Imamul Haq, Sami Aslam and Zafar Gohar were interrogated, a well-placed source confirmed.

When quizzed by Javed Miandad, who is a part of the inquiry committee, captain Babar Azam said the main reason behind their decision to bat first against India during their quarterfinal defeat was that they were under the impression that the same old pitch, which was used for previous matches, would be used for the crunch match.

According to the Nation, Azam added in his reply to Miandad, since it was the same pitch on which four matches had already played, it would favour the team bowling second.

Azam added it was the right decision to bat first against India despite being dismissed for a paltry total. (ANI)
