Srinagar, Septem Sep 8 (IANS) A special police officer (SPO) was killed and a Territorial Army soldier critically injured in a guerrilla attack in Sopore town of north Kashmir Saturday, police said.
A senior police officer said separatist guerrillas opened fire in Brat Kalan area of the Sopore town killing SPO Riyaz-ul-Hassan on the spot.
"A Territorial Army personnel identified as Tariq Ahmad Mir was critically injured in the shoot-out and shifted to hospital for treatment. He was later referred to Srinagar for specialised treatment," he said.
"Sopore police has launched a manhunt for the militants. A case has been registered in police station, Sopore and investigation taken up," a police statement said.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
