'Desperate' Rodgers eyeing Drogba, Owen at Liverpool to solve 'striker-crisis'

London, Mon, 03 Sep 2012 ANI

London, Sep 3(ANI): Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring former Anfield hero Michael Owen and ex-Chelsea striker Didier Drogba at the club to solve the existing striker crisis, as they were condemned to a second defeat in opening three matches of the Premier League.

Arsenal comprehensively beat Liverpool 2-0 with the help of goals from summer recruits Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla on Sunday.

Rodgers also admitted sending 35 million pound striker Andy Carroll to West Ham United on loan without bringing in a replacement was a mistake, but now he wants to make amends.

Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua released Drogba on Sunday, whereas former Reds striker Owen is a free agent after being let go by Manchester United.

"I've a very small group here, there were 19 players training yesterday with some young players among them. Any player I believe can improve the squad, I will look at - there's absolutely no question about that," the Sun quoted Rodgers, as saying.

"I cannot say no to anything. I have to look a ways to change the group. We need reinforcements," he added.

When Rodgers was asked whether the club's American owners would meet Drogba's big wage demands, he replied: "I will have to ask the question, won't I? The reality is we need reinforcements. But we have to concentrate on the players who are here." (ANI)
