New Delhi/ Patna, Sept 3 (ANI): Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi's remarks backing chief minister Nitish Kumar's candidature for the post of the Prime Minister has created stir in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Reacting to Modi's comments, senior BJP leader Rameshwar Chaurasia on Monday said that every member of the BJP possesses the qualities to become the Prime Minister of the country, and that Modi should refrain from making such "demoralising" statements.
"I just want to make it clear to him that he should not make such demoralising statements. I would also discuss this mater with our national. As a member of BJP, even I am Prime Minister element, I would say that every single worker of BJP is PM material," Chaurasia said.
He added that such statements might demoralise the morale of BJP workers.
"If any such remark comes out from the senior leader of Bharatiya Janata Party, then I believe they have lost faith in the party, or have lost faith in himself. If such senior leader will make such statements, then the activists of BJP will get demoralised," he said.
Meanwhile in Patna, Road Construction Minister Nand Kishore Yadav said that he couldn't propose the name of the future Prime Minister of India.
"I am not in that position to decide who would be the next Prime Minister. The party president would decide who would be the next PM, I cannot recommend that," Yadav said.
Minister of Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Bihar Ashwini Kumar Chaubey also echoed similar view and added that the national leadership of the party would take the decision.
"BJP would decide who would be the next Prime Minister," said Chaubey.
Meanwhile Modi refused to comment on the issue.
According to media reports, the remark came during an interview with a leading English Newspaper.
"Nitish Kumar is surely PM material. As Chief Minister of Bihar and valued ally of the BJP, he would certainly play a crucial role in 2014 Lok Sabha elections," Modi had said. (ANI)
