'Raj Thackeray should be declared militant', demands Abu Azmi

Mumbai, Sat, 01 Sep 2012 ANI

Mumbai/Patna, Sep 1 (ANI): Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Abu Asim Azmi on Saturday demanded that Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray and his party should be declared a militant and hate mongering party.

Azmi charged Thackeray and other MNS leaders of spreading hatred and giving militant statements.

"Now, if the Chief Secretary of Bihar has written such a letter to the Government of Maharashtra, then I don't think it is wrong. If the police officials of a state go to another state, then they should inform the government and the police of that concerned state. The country will be run as per the constitution, not by somebody's hooliganism," said Azmi.

"And I still say that if Raj Thackeray has any complaint against Bihar Government, then he should go to Bihar," he added.

Meanwhile, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Ram Kripal Yadav has also condemned Raj Thackeray's remark, and said Bihar and its people have had a glorious past.

"Bihar has formed this country with its blood and sweat. It has formed Maharashtra. A Bihari can never be a traitor to the nation. I think Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray should look into their own selves first. They should put restrictions on their tongues. They should try to keep themselves away from making anti-national statements," he said.

Raj Thackeray had earlier threatened to brand every migrant from Bihar an 'infiltrator'.

"The letter says Mumbai police has to get in touch with the Bihar government before picking up any person from their state. If Mumbai crime branch picks up people from their state without the knowledge of the Bihar police they would face legal action," said Thackeray, while reacting to a media report that Bihar Chief Secretary Navin Kumar has written to Mumbai Police Commissioner expressing displeasure over the arrest of the youth for vandalising the martyr's memorial during Azad Maidan protest on August 11.

"If the Bihar Government tries to become a hurdle in the way of a police investigation, then my party would dub every Bihari in Maharashtra as an infiltrator and would force them to leave the state. The person who desecrated the Amar Jawan memorial was arrested from Bihar. I would like to tell the Bihar chief secretary that because of your state, the crime rate (in Maharashtra) has gone up," he added.

Mumbai Crime Branch had earlier on Monday arrested Abdul Qadir Mohammed Younus Ansari from Sitamarhi in Bihar for vandalising the Amar Jawan Memorial near Azad Maidan during August 11 rioting at a protest demonstration called against alleged atrocities on Muslims in Assam and Myanmar. (ANI)
