Lucknow, Aug 31 (IANS) A woman was killed and 12 injured when lightning struck in Mirzapur district late Thursday, police said.
The incident happened at Veerpur village in Mirzapur district, about 290 km from here, when lightning struck during a torrential downpour, instantly killing 40-year-old Bhanwari Devi.
Over a dozen people, including two teenagers, were also severely burnt.
District officials transported the injured to nearby medical facilities.
Lightning also struck villagers in Kotar and Bhawari villages.
Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) B.D. Yadav said the injured have been hospitalised and the administration was considering an ex-gratia to the family of the woman killed.
