New Delhi, Aug 29 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Central Government to formulate guidelines for the protection of tigers in core and buffer areas.
Lawyer M L Lahuti informed media that the Supreme Court has further directed September 27 as the date when these guidelines would be put before the court.
"Supreme Court has given two-three directions. The first is, it has asked the government through a committee to formulate the guidelines as to how the tigers can be protected, both in the core area and the buffer area. And thereafter, the apex court has also said that whoever is the stakeholder, they must make their submission or representation within a week to that committee or to the government," he said.
"And the Supreme Court has further finally directed that September 27 is the next date when the guidelines formulated by the central government be put before the Supreme Court . Whatever the objections or the grievances of the stakeholders, the Supreme Court will consider," Lahuti added.
Lahuti further said that the earlier ban on tourism activity would continue in the core zones.
"Supreme Court has made it clear that the interim order earlier passed would continue, namely in the core area no tourist would be allured or allowed to enter because it is not in the interest of the tiger protection," said Lahuti.
In a move to protect the endangered cats, the apex court had ordered in July a ban on tourism in "core zones" of more than 40 of the country's tiger reserves.
The court had also imposed fine on six states - Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Bihar and Jharkhand, which failed to notify the buffer zones, in their respective tiger reserves despite its earlier directions. (ANI)
