New Zealand Cricket distances itself from 'bad boy' Ryder's gambling tweets

Wellington, Tue, 28 Aug 2012 ANI

Wellington, Aug 28(ANI): Opening batsman Jessie Ryder once again raised few eyebrows when he revealed on Twitter about his gambling exploits, but New Zealand Cricket (NZC) chief executive David White has claimed his declarations were not an area of concern for them, as he is not contracted to them.

Ryder wrote on Twitter at the weekend that he'd won 350 dollars backing the Wellington Lions rugby side and was aiming to have 2000 dollars in his account after wagering on Sunday's NRL games.

"It's important to point out that he is not contracted to New Zealand Cricket. In saying that, we know he's been working very hard in preparation for the new season with the Wellington Firebirds," Stuff.co.nz quoted White, as saying.

Ryder (@DijaRyder) tweeted on Saturday: "Checked the tab account an (sic) was happy to see 400 in there thank u Welly Lions too easy."

"7+ halftime an (sic) 13+ plus full time thanks lions easy 350 in the back pocket," he wrote soon after.

On Sunday, Ryder tweeted: "Big bets on the league 2day looking to have 2000 in the account at the end of the nite."

Soon after he was celebrating Waikato's 42-22 win over North Harbour. "Thanks Waikato 13+ good start."

There was no follow-up tweet as to how the league wagers fared. (ANI)
