Vancouver, Aug 27(ANI): New Zealand teen sensation Lydia Ko stunned the world's best women golfers by becoming the youngest ever winner of an LPGA event, at the Canadian Open in Vancouver.

The 15-year old Kiwi genius put the golfing world on notice with a spectacular three-shot win in the two million dollar tournament.

Leading by a shot after three rounds, Ko highlighted her immense talent and portrayed composure beyond her years with a brilliant birdie-laden back nine to win the tournament.

Ko carded the equal-best round of the day, a five-under 67 to finish on 13-under at Vancouver Golf Club.

Korean Inbee Park was second on 10-under while three golfers tied for third a further two shots back. Nineteen of the world's top-20 players were in the field.

Yani Tseng of Taiwan, who is world No.1, trailed 14 shots behind Ko, who was typically modest in her eye-catching victory.

"It's a professional event, and I just came to make the cut and play my best. Then I won and I'm going to get the trophy - it's amazing," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Ko,

as saying.

Ko was not qualified for the winners' purse of 300,000 dollars, which goes to world No.11 Park, but she said it didn't concern her.

"It's what happens and I've come to realise it doesn't matter. When I turn pro, I'll get that money and hopefully will have many wins."

The South Korean-born Aucklander has already set a host of notable records, as she is the youngest player to win on the elite US LPGA Tour, surpassing 16-year-old American Lexi Thompson's achievement last year.

Ko is also the first New Zealander to win on the Tour and is the first amateur to do so for 43 years. (ANI)
