'I'm fully aware what Strauss is going through', says former England captain Stewart

London, Aug 26 (ANI): Former English cricketer Alec Stewart has claimed that as he has served as captain of the England cricket team, he is fully aware of what Andrew Strauss might be going through now.

Writing in his column in the Daily Mirror, Stewart feels Strauss might have "felt physically and mentally drained" after the whole saga involving Kevin Pietersen, and the third Test defeat to South Africa at Lord's last week,

"When the side is winning, the spotlight shines brightly on the whole group of players, but that soon changes in defeat... and then, the captain is left on his own to take the rap," the Daily Mirror quoted Stewart, as writing.

"It's the captain who has his every decision scrutinised. And there will be 101 theories about how the captaincy is affecting his batting, every time he gets out," he continued.

Stewart claims that Strauss must be going through a really rough patch as he believes that "life as a captain can at times be tough and lonely."

He insists that sooner Strauss sorts out things with Pietersen, the better it would be for him and his team.

"The KP situation has been a major distraction, and the sooner the two of them sit down and thrash everything out, the better for all concerned. Whether it takes one meeting or several, let's get it put to bed once and for all," he said. (ANI)
