London, Aug 24(ANI): German Bundesliga club Hamburg is eyeing a swoop for their former captain and Tottenham Hotspurs star midfielder Rafael Van der Vaart, after the Dutch ace lost his place to summer signing Gylfi Sigurdsson for the first Premier League match under new boss Andre Villas-Boas.
Hamburg sporting director and ex-Spurs director of -football Frank Arnesen is now leading the German club's bid to- bring Van der Vaart back to the club.
Holland international Van der Vaart ended a three-year spell with the Bundesliga outfit by moving to Real Madrid in 2009, but Hamburg's new billionaire owner Michael Kuhne is ready to bankroll a 10 million pound swoop for him.
"We could do a last-minute deal for Van der Vaart. Tottenham's -chairman Daniel Levy could get a kick from doing things this way. I'm ruling nothing out," The Daily Star quoted Arnesen, as saying.
Meanwhile, Van der Vaart refused to deny the Hamburg link. He said: "I can't and won't say anything at this stage." (ANI)
