BJP pulls up Beni Prasad Verma, says Congress 'far removed from reality'

New Delhi, Mon, 20 Aug 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Aug 20 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday took potshots at the UPA Government over Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma's comment that farmers gain because of price rise, saying the ruling Congress Party is far removed from reality and has no concerns for the common man of this country.

BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said the rampant inflation is not visible to leaders of the Congress Party.

"They (Congress leaders) are seeing the increasing inflation also an achievement, and they are saying that the farmers are benefitting from it. This tells us about the mindset of the Congress. Nothing can be worse than a Union Cabinet Minister's comment that farmers benefit because of inflation," said Hussain.

"Today, the farmers are getting seeds, fertilizers and electricity at expensive rates. The agricultural input prices are going up. I think the Congress, which talks about the common man, has gone too far from them," he added.

Hussain further expressed the hope that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will form the government at the Centre, as it was now standing as the best political alternative for the people of this country who are extremely perturbed with the working style of the ruling Congress Party.

"Taking note of the present condition in the country, there is no doubt that the NDA will form the government. I believe that the NDA at the moment stands as a strong political alternative. People of the country now have no faith on the Congress," he said.

Verma had earlier justified the price rise in the country, saying it benefits the members of the farming community. (ANI)
