Two drown off Mumbai's Juhu beach

Mumbai, Aug 20 (IANS) Two men Monday drowned off Juhu beach after they went for a swim in the sea, police said here.

"Two men were found drowning at the beach Monday evening. We believe they went for a swim and were drawn in deep waters due to strong currents," an official from Santacruz police station told IANS.

Disaster management officials said that the two men went for a swim in the sea and were rescued by beach lifeguards after they were seen struggling.

"However, they were declared dead when rushed to nearest hospital. They have been identified as Dilip Kumar, 32, and Abdul Rehman, 30," and official from civic disaster control room said.

Police are checking if they were a part of any group who came for a picnic at the beach or if they were residents of the area to get more details about their families.
