New Delhi, Aug.20 (ANI): Her Majesty's Canadian Ship (HMCS) Regina will visit Kochi in Kerala, on August 21. HMCS Regina is currently en route from British Columbia to the Arabian Sea region where she will conduct maritime security operations as part of Operation Artemis, Canada's contribution to Combined Task Force 150 (CTF 150).

"HMCS Regina's deployment to the Arabian Sea demonstrates the steadfast commitment of Canada to international maritime security. Our sailors have done excellent work promoting peace and security in the region's waters," said Mr. Stewart Beck, Canada's High Commissioner in India."

During its visit to Kochi, Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) personnel will meet with their counterparts in the Indian Navy for an enriching cultural exchange.

On the eve of the visit, HMCS Regina's commanding officer, Commander Jason Boyd said, "We are very much looking forward to our visit to India and our upcoming operation in the Arabian Sea region. Both Canada and India recognize the need for greater maritime security in the Arabian Sea region. We appreciate the cooperation of the Indian Navy in promoting security in the region."

Commander Boyd added, "Defence cooperation between Canada and India is modest. However, we are always looking for opportunities to cooperate with the Indian Navy in the future."

HMCS Regina is a Halifax Class frigate with a crew of 250 personnel, including an embarked CH-124 Sea King Helicopter detachment. Upon her arrival in the Arabian Sea, HMCS Regina will replace her sister ship, HMCS Charlottetown, who will begin the transit home after an eight month international deployment to both the Mediterranean and Arabian Seas.

Operation Artemis is the Canadian Forces' (CF) participation in maritime security and counter-terrorism operations in the Arabian Sea region with the multinational CTF 150. The deployment of HMCS Regina to CTF 150 contributes significantly to an important ongoing international maritime security operation, and provides the CF with the situational awareness required to rapidly respond to future crises as directed by the Government of Canada.
