Tamil Nadu's Badrinath replaces Laxman in Indian squad for Test series against Kiwis

Mumbai, Aug.19 (ANI): The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Subramaniam Badrinath as V.V.S. Laxman's replacement in the Indian team for the Test series against New Zealand, which commences at Hyderabad on August 23, 2012.

Badrinath will join the squad at the earliest, a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) release said on Sunday.

Badrinath comes into the national squad a day after Laxman announced his retirement from international cricket after 16 years.

Badrinath, 32, has played two previous Tests and has an aggregate of 63 with one half century (56) to his credit and averages 21. He has also played seven one-day internationals for India, scored 79 runs and averages 15.80 in that format. He has played one Twenty20 for India and scored 43.

He plays first clas cricket for Tamil Nadu and South Zone, playing 104 times at the state level, and scoring 7836 runs at an average of 60.74. His highest score in first class cricket is 250. He has 28 first class hundreds and 34 half centuries. (ANI)
