Lucknow, Aug 17 (IANS) The bodies of three children were found in a village pond in Mahoba district, police said Friday.
The children, identified as Sanjay (9), Ria (7) and Deepak (9) were last seen playing in the Dak bungalow grounds on Aug 15. They had been untraceable since.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Mahoba Suresh Rao Kulkarni told IANS that the three were related to each other and were residents of Chani village in the district, 215 km from here.
After initially searching for the missing children, the family of the three had lodged a first information report (FIR) in the Kotwali police station.
Friday morning, locals told police that three 'sacks' were seen floating in the village pond.
Cops reached the pond and fished out the 'sacks', only to find the bodies of the three children.
The bodies were naked and the clothes were later found near the pond.
Even though the three kids may have dived into the pond for a bath, the police are not ruling out sexual assault. A post-mortem report is awaited.
