DMRC starts modification of electrical utilities of Faridabad corridor

New Delhi, Tue, 14 Aug 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Aug.14 (ANI): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has started the shifting of major electrical lines and transformers to execute construction work on the 13.875-kilometer-long Badarpur-YMCA-Faridabad Corridor.

A DMRC release said that as part of this work, a 220 KV and a 66 KV Double Circuit transmission line would be raised for the construction of a viaduct and a proposed NHPC Chowk station.

Another 66 KV Double Circuit transmission line, which is running along the proposed YMCA Station, would be converted into underground by laying about 12 km single core cables.

The shifting of electrical utilities in this Metro Corridor is a major challenge for DMRC engineers due to:

1. Almost all of the 517 piers are affected and infringing with 2/3 circuits of overhead 11 KV electrical lines and underground cables.

2. Space for the shifting of electrical utilities is not available at a number of locations. The electrical installations would be shifted after the land is made available for which HUDA has already been requested.

This is the first time in the history of the DMRC that the electrical lines will be set up throughout the corridor, at all piers and stations.

The DMRC has already started shifting 11 KV/LT electrical lines, including 63 pole/plinth mounted sub stations adjacent to the entire Faridabad Metro alignment. These existing electrical lines are feeding most of the factories and households of Faridabad in the 10.875 km stretch.

The Delhi Metro is taking special measures for the shifting of these electrical lines to ensure that consumers face minimum inconvenience during the shifting/relocations of transformers and the electrical lines in peak summer.

Nearly four kilometers of electrical lines, including six numbers are to be shifted.

Transformers of various ratings have already been shifted in close co-ordination with DHBVN without any inconvenience to consumers.

The DMRC has shifted a number of transmission lines of 220 KV, 132KV, 66KV and 33 KV voltage level till date in Delhi, Gurgaon and Jaipur, and is in the process of shifting more high voltage electrical lines during the execution of the Phase III project.

This fully elevated corridor will have nine stations and likely to be operational by year 2014.

This is an extension of the already operational 20.16 km long Central Secretariat-Badarpur corridor of Line -6 which is further extended from Central Secretariat to Kashmree Gate covering 9.36 km.

Once fully operational, Line-6 will be running from Kashmere Gate to YMCA Chowk having a length of 43.40 KM and 32 Metro stations. (ANI)
