Agra, Aug.13 (ANI): The recently inaugurated Yamuna Expressway, which connects Agra, where the world famous Taj Mahal is located, with NOIDA and New Delhi, has brought in a flood of tourists to the Taj Mahal, boosting local business and sales.
Kishor Gupta, a local hotelier, said that the inauguration of the expressway has led to a good tourist flow this year.
"It is very exciting, the influx of tourists indicates that this coming season will be quiet good. We already have a lot of dates in November and December that have been sold-out, there are no rooms left in Agra. It looks very good. The last two years were not too great for the businesses, but this season holds a lot of positive hope" he said
The expressway is six-lane highway costing 2 billion dollars, has reduced the journey time to two and a half hours and a round trip cost Rupees 510, as toll charges, thus making it not only affordable, but also an easy attraction to tourists visiting Delhi.
Local businessmen were very excited and look forward to more benefits from the ease that the expressway provides to the ever-growing number of tourists.
Mughal Emperor Shahjahan built the monument as a sign of his love for his favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal, after she died due to childbirth.
An army of 20,000 stonemasons, gem cutters, marble fitters and labourers, who toiled for 22 years, built it.
The 358-year-old marble mausoleum is India's most famous tourist attraction, bringing four million visitors every year to Agra. (ANI)
