'Improvement in Deshmukh's health condition', says Azad

Chennai, Aug 12 (ANI): Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Sunday informed that there is improvement in the health condition of Union Science and Technology Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.

Azad, who visited Deshmukh at the Global Hospitals and Health City here, wished him a speedy recovery.

"We had come to meet him. We had also discussed with Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister before coming to this place. Thus, we wanted to know what the latest position is and we are happy that improvement is there and we all wish him best of luck," he said.

Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, Punjab Governor Shivraj Patil, Minster of State in Prime Minister's Office V. Narayanasamy were among those who visited Deshmukh.

The 67-year-old former Maharashtra Chief Minister is being treated for Hepatocellular Carcinoma, a form of liver cancer, which has led to his multiple organ failure.

A team of doctors headed by renowned liver transplant surgeon, Dr. Mohamed Rela, monitoring Deshmukh's health condition. (ANI)
