London, August 10 (ANI): Gold medalist Katherine Grainger is desperate for David Beckham to contact her - after she accidentally snubbed his phone call.
The rowing ace is kicking herself for not answering when he rang her because she saw an unknown caller on her phone.
Then she discovered he'd left a voicemail suggesting they meet up - but she doesn't know his number.
Rowing legend Sir Steve Redgrave promised Glasgow-born Katherine he'd set up a meeting with Beckham if she finally struck gold in the double sculls last week, but the 36-year-old had thought he was joking.
"After I won, it was all still just good fun - until I got a message on my phone from David Beckham," the Sun quoted her as saying.
"I'm kicking myself because I didn't take the call. It was an unknown number and I was at a hockey match and sitting in front of a four-piece band so I couldn't have spoken to anyone."
But despite missing out on the call, Katherine is still thrilled she now has a message from the star to play to her friends and family.
"If I'd answered, that would have been the end of my experience with David Beckham, but it ended up even better that I got it on voicemail because I let my mum hear it. He gave his love to my family - so spread the word, my family are friends with David Beckham. He couldn't have been nicer. He said it was well deserved and it would be an honour to meet me and that it will happen," she said.
"I didn't get a number, so I'll wait for the elusive call from a mystery number. If you speak to him, tell him I've been busy, but I'll get back to him if he gives me his number," she added. (ANI)
