Agra, Aug 7 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Nitin Gadkari has accused the Congress party of using Bangladeshi intruders for vote bank politics in Assam following the recent ethnic clashes.
"The Congress party using the region's conflict for its political gain," Gadkari told media here."Nationals from Bangladesh intruded into Assam, their population has increased by 80 ercent and local Muslims and Hindus got beaten up. The Bangladeshis completely occupied the region and even bought property there, yet our Congress party refuses to take any action against them. The Congress refuses to do anything about the intrusion by foreigners, it rather asks them to come in large numbers and vote for their party in exchange of opportunities in India," Gadkari said.
Meanwhile, the situation in Chirang, which has witnessed fresh incidents of violence on Sunday, is limping back to normal and no untoward incident has been reported during the last 48 hours.
The indefinite curfew, however, continues in the district as a precautionary measure.
A four-member team of National Human Rights Commission reached Kokrajhar last evening to take stock of the relief and rehabilitation measures being undertaken at relief camps.
A Group of Ministers will also visit the relief camps in Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri districts from today. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi instructed the health department to set up separate camps for pregnant women and children and provide them nutritional food. So far 95 relief camps have been closed and around 1 lakh 12 thousand people have returned to their villages.
The violence in Assam was sparked on July 20 when unidentified men killed four youth. In retaliation, armed Bodos attacked Muslims, suspecting them of being behind the killings.Over 60 persons were killed following clashes between Bodo tribes and Muslim settlers.ANI)
