Mumbai, Aug 6 (IANS) Amandeep Kohli fashioned the second upset in the competition when he shocked India No.5 Himanshu Jain in the Shyam Shroff Memorial All India Open Invitation Snooker Tournament at the Khar Gymkhana Monday.
Kohli rallied from a 1-3 deficit to snatch a thrilling 4-3 win over the Hyderabad youngster in Group D.
Much was expected of Kohli after the win but he failed to deceive when he went down to Tamil Nadu-based Rafath Habib of Railways and Andy Lee of Hong Kong.
The last edition's runner-up Shahbaaz Khan of Bharat Petroleum crashed to his second straight defeat when he lost to Siddharth Parikh of Railways, while Faisal Khan, also of Railways, upset former national champion Sarang Shroff of NSCI in a 4-3 thriller after leading 3-0.
Manan Chandra of Bharat Petroleum won his second straight game in Group C, as did Sourav Kothari of ONGC in Group D, while double Asian Champion Yasin Merchant of hosts Khar Gymkhana won his opener in Group A.
India sub junior No. 3 Ishpreet Singh Chadha of Khar Gymkhana once again frittered away a 2-1 lead and went down 2-4 to Mahesh Jagdale of Elphinstone Cricket Club in Group C.
