Manali (Himachal Pradesh), Aug. 6 (ANI): The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has reopened the strategic Leh-Manali Highway here, which was damaged and closed due to flash floods.

Interacting with media, the Chief Engineer, Project Deepak, I. R. Mathur, said the road has been opened for one-way traffic and will soon open for two-way traffic."The two-way traffic will be through within 3-4 days," Mathur said.

The clearance work began on Sunday, as hundreds of vehicles were stranded on the highway.

Labourers and bulldozers were engaged in road-clearing operations.

Tourists said the scene was devastating as roads were flooded and it was dangerous to travel.

"Yesterday, it was terrific. We went from Kalong to Manali and it took long time, it took twelve hours because there was lot of water and the roads were so narrow, we had to wait for hours. Lot of people were putting stones on the road to try to cross through, but just before Manali, a bridge went down and it was dangerous," Nelly Daran, a French tourist said. (ANI)
