Washington, August 5 (ANI): Judo champ Kayla Harrison, who won a gold medal in women's 78-kilogram division in Olympics, has revealed that overcoming the sexual abuse when she was a kid was the hardest thing she has ever faced.
The 22-year-old was abused by her former coach Daniel Doyle during the trips around the world until she was 16.
Doyle has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, since the sport star opened up about her ordeal and trauma, People magazine reported.
"It's no secret that I was sexually abused by my former coach. And that was definitely the hardest thing I've ever had to overcome," she said.
Harrison, who has battled a dark and painful fast is, however, very thankful to her present coach Jimmy Pedro.
In the moments before the competition on Thursday Pedro gave her a pep talk bolstering up her morale.
"Today, Kayla Harrison, nobody is going to beat you," he said.
"Today, you will make history. Today, Kayla Harrison is an Olympic champion," he added. (ANI)
