Myanmar Army Chief in India to strengthen defence ties

New Delhi, Aug 3 (ANI): Chief of Defence Services of Myanmar, General Min Aung Hlaing arrived here on Friday to strengthen defence ties between two countries.

He was accorded a guard of honour on arrival.

During the visit, General Hlaing would also meet the three chiefs of the army.

The officials of both the sides will discuss a wide range of issues including the steps to be taken to train the soldiers of Myanmar, and will also take up the issues of insurgency in the northeastern states.

Myanmar has come to hold great importance for India in wake of the increasing influence of China.

Recently Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had visited Myanmar and the leaders of both the countries had signed agreements aimed at shoring up its presence as rival countries line up to do business with its strategically located neighbour. (ANI)
