Cops rush to Miley Cyrus' house after 911 hoax call

Washington, Fri, 03 Aug 2012 ANI

Washington, August 3 (ANI): Miley Cyrus' house was stormed by cops after receiving a report about a possible home invasion.

But when they arrived to the scene, it turned out to be a false alarm, and all the signs pointed to a troubling prank known as "Swatting."

According to law enforcement sources, the LAPD received a 911 call at 6:50 pm to report a possible home invasion with possible shots fired, TMZ.com reported.

The LAPD responded immediately by sending a chopper, and officers with high powered weapons, who immediately set up a perimeter around the home with their guns drawn.

But the police quickly determined that the house was quiet and no one was at home and there was no sign of a crime and that it was a false alarm.

Law enforcement said that officials now believed that the caller was a "911 abuser."

The call seemed to fall in line with a prank called "Swatting"-in which a caller tries to trick emergency responders into dispatching law enforcement (like the SWAT team) to a house by making up a serious crime.

Cops said if the call was indeed a prank, which it appeared to be, the caller would be arrested and will face serious criminal charges. In fact, if someone would have gotten hurt or killed due to the prank, the caller could have even face felony charges. (ANI)
