Flower backs his England flops ahead of second Test against Proteas

London, Wed, 01 Aug 2012 ANI

London, Aug 1 (ANI): Defending his under performing Test flops, England boss Andy Flower is confident they won't be beaten for a second successive time.

An innings defeat by South Africa in the first Investec Test match prompted spinner Graeme Swann to call it a "public humiliation".

But Flower is refusing to get too down about a fifth loss from nine matches this year.

He said: "They outplayed us and they played outstanding cricket and deserved to win the game. We fought hard and weren't good enough for that Test. We go again on Thursday.

"We get ourselves into the right frame of mind by doing the same thing as we have been doing. I have every confidence in our players."

"I wouldn't describe our results as being dismal. We've had some really good results over the last couple of years. I think you have to look a little deeper than that," The Daily Mirror quoted Flower, as saying.

"We've practised hard, each individual has his own method of preparation and we try to make sure that stands us in good stead. You don't throw that away after one Test. In international sport you'll have huge ups and downs and our make-up has to deal with those ups and downs."

James Taylor will hope to enjoy an "up" start when he makes his Test debut at No.6 in place of Ravi Bopara, and Flower is keen to see him succeed.

Flower said: "I certainly hope James can make six his spot for a while. I don't know him that well. I watched him play against Sri Lanka at Derby last year. He looks like a young man that -understands his game pretty well and he knows how to score runs." (ANI)
