Thiruvananthapuram, July 29 (IANS) A Congress legislator Sunday sharply criticised the party led-United Democratic Front government of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, saying some ministries were being run by the personal staff of the minister concerned.
"While some of the minister's are capable ones. There are others who are not good and it's their personal staff who run the ministries," four time legislator and former assembly speaker V.M. Sudheeran said while addressing a camp of Youth Congress workers here Sunday.
Some of the ministers "rely more on e-mails and computers and if this goes on, then what happened in Uttar Pradesh will happen," Sudheeran said.
Sixty-four-year-old Sudheeran has been a Congress member of the Lok Sabha for four terms. He was also once a minister in the state.
Sudheeran after loosing the 2004 Lok sabha polls, is today the most sought after by TV channels as he is highly critical of the Chandy government.
The last time Chandy and Sudheeran met at the state party headquarters at the coordination committee meeting of the Congress party and the UDF government, the two crossed swords over number of issues.
In the recent weeks, Sudheeran has been going hammer and tongs against the Chandy government on the issue of proposed Aranmula airport and also with regards to fresh laws to protect the fast diminishing farm lands in the state.
Sudheeran has also asked for a "fair selection" of office bearers when the party's state and district level committees are reconstituted.
Sudheeran has sought the intervention of federal ministers hailing from the state, like A.K. Antony and Vayalar Ravi, as he fears Chandy and state Congress chief Ramesh Chennithala will share the spoils of power.
"He gets a pension as a former Lok Sabha member and as a former legislator. Many, who want to react against the constant criticism of Sudheeran, are not doing so because, all carry hopes of getting some party posts and an open criticism against a leader like the stature of Sudheeran might play spoilsport," said an angry Congress leader when asked about Sudheeran's constant attacks.
