Madonna upsets fans with political rant in 45 min Paris show

London, July 28 (ANI): Madonna sang only for half an hour, in a gig that lasted just 45 minutes, as she indulged in a political rant that finally led the audience to jeer, boo and throw bottles.

The megastar sells out arenas but decided to host a relatively intimate show for 2,000 well-heeled fans at the Olympia in Paris on Thursday, charging up to 200 pounds a ticket as a last-minute addition to her blockbuster MDNA tour, the Mirror reported.

But rather than knocking out a string of hits, she used part of the show to apparently address France's far-right nationalist leader Marine Le Pen, who is suing Madonna for screening a picture of her with a swastika on her forehead at a concert earlier this month.

So, while the crowd was hoping for a bit of Material Girl and perhaps a flash of conical bra, they ended up attending a political rally.

After singing just a few songs from her huge back-catalogue, the 53-year-old pop diva broke off and said: "I know that I have made a certain Marine Le Pen very angry with me.

"The enemy is not out there, there is no such thing as an external enemy. The enemy is within.

"It's not my intention to make enemies. It's my intention to promote tolerance," she said.

Then, as a sort of "no offence, yeah?" move, she told fans: "I have a special affinity with France and I have for many years.

"It could go all the way to Napoleon because I think of myself as a revolutionary."

As she left the stage, the curtains closed with a message reading "I love you."

Unfortunately for Madonna, many fans didn't reciprocate those sentiments and when she didn't bother reappearing for an encore, they began chanting "we want a refund!"

Gig-goer Guillaume Delaval said afterwards: "The show was OK but only lasted 45 minutes and she spent 15 minutes of that wittering on about politics and tolerance.

"We didn't come to hear that. It was a concert, not the United Nations." (ANI)
