Pandya scrapes through in all-India Snooker

Mumbai, July 27 (IANS) Aashit Pandya of Dombivli Gymkhana and Rahul Sachdev of JVPG were forced into deciders before advancing to Round 3 of the Shyam Shroff Memorial All India Open Invitation Snooker Tournament here Friday.

Trailing 0-2 after dropping the second frame on the black, Pandya relied on experience to rally to a 14-52, 49-52, 58-44, 55-26, 46-34 win over Rohan Shah of Surat, on an exciting day of close encounters.

After trailing 1-2, Sachdev recovered from a sluggish start to register a 22-61, 77-28, 37-56, 73-57, 41-11 win over Poras Shah of Matunga Gymkhana that included a break of 58 in the second frame.

In other close ties, Sanjeev Bijlani of Park Club and Otters Club marker Joseph Menezes were the other significant cueists who were taken the distance before winning the first round.

Bijlani, who had a 2-0 cushion, beat Jogesh Chimnani of Khar Gymkhana 49-19, 52-27, 22-44, 35-52, 64-35, while Menezes rallied from 1-2 to beat Gaurav Jaisinghani of Vashi 10-37, 62-43, 44-62, 58-35, 54-35.

Manjeet Singh Bhomar of North Indian Association continued his winning streak with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Khar Gymkhana youngster Nikhil Sehgal in the third round.
