VIP quota for Haj pilgrimage cut

New Delhi, July 23 (IANS) The Supreme Court Monday reduced the VIP quota for Haj pilgrimage from 2,500 to just 240.

Judges Aftab Alam and Ranjana Prakash Desai said under the reduced quota, the Indian president can recommend 70 pilgrims, the vice-president 60, the prime minister 60 and the minister for external affairs 50 pilgrims.

The remaining 2,260 VIP seats will move to the general Haj category.
