London, July 21(ANI): The British Olympic Association (BOA) has told athletes to express themselves to fans by tweeting whatever that comes in their mind, no matter how mundane the thoughts are.
The competitors have been told to let their personality shine through Twitter by the BOA, and even the International Olympic Association has launched a feed that will contain an ongoing stream of tweets from the athletes.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has described the 2012 Games as the most 'social and tech-savvy Olympics ever', and analysts have already predicted a record-breaking 100m final in terms of number of tweets per second.
The previous record was when Fernando Torres scored the final goal for Chelsea against Barcelona in the semi-final of the Champions League.
"This will take people right into the heart of the Olympics in a way that has not happened before," The Daily Mail quoted Lewis Wiltshire, Twitter's head of sport in Britain, as saying.
The tech-savvy competitors are already tweeting away with some tweets being dull, some being funny, and others being just plain strange..
However, Lord Coe, chairman of London 2012, threw a spanner in the works, claiming too much time on the social networking site can be a distraction to the athletes.
He said: "I've found quite a close correlation between the number of tweets at competitive times and the level of under-performance." (ANI)
