Sydney, July 17 (ANI): Former Australia Twenty20 skipper Cameron White has re-signed with Melbourne Stars for next summer's Big Bash League (BBL) season, but has stepped down as skipper to make way for leg-spin great Shane Warne.
Stars president Eddie McGuire announced at a media conference on Tuesday that national T20 squad members White and David Hussey had re-signed with the MCG-based team.
Rob Quiney, Matthew Wade, Peter Handscomb and English import Luke Wright will also return for a second season.
The Stars have recruited former Australia captain Ian Chappell as the chairman of selectors.
McGuire said the discussion about Warne was for another day and he wanted to focus on Tuesday's re-signing of six key batsmen, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
The Stars have already announced they've recruited batsmen Brad Hodge and Glenn Maxwell from the Melbourne Renegades.
"Cameron has stood down as captain of the Melbourne Stars and it was Cameron's decision to do so to concentrate on playing and to concentrate on getting back into that Australian side," McGuire said.
"There's no decision yet (on the captaincy) because we're still going through our signings. Shane Warne's name comes up. 'Warnie' hasn't been contracted yet," he said. (ANI)
