London, July 15 (ANI): Grand Prix legend Niki Lauda has backed F1 ace Lewis Hamilton to succeed in the Formula One season this year.
The former world champion, who has driven for both Ferrari and McLaren claimed Hamilton and teammate Jenson Button are not to blame for their woes.
"They are both world champions and better than they were made to look at Silverstone. They are suffering from the performance of the car," the Daily Mirror quoted Lauda, as saying.
Hamilton finished eighth, equalling his worst points finish of the year and Button 10th, and while the British driver is 37 points down on the Spaniard, Button trails by a cavernous 79 points, more than double his current total of 50.
Even though Mark Webber dished out a decent beating to Fernando Alonso last Sunday at Silverstone, the outspoken Austrian still reckons the Spaniard is the man to beat this year.
"He's the toughest guy out there and he is also the cleverest. He knows what to do and after years at Ferrari he has settled in, knows how to be consistent and has kept the team going forward step by step," Lauda said. (ANI)
